Lawmakers, Tax Experts Debate Future of BOE

TaxAnalysts – State Tax Notes (March 18, 2019):  At the March 6 joint hearing of the Senate Governance and Finance Committee, the Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, and Budget Subcommittee No. 4 on State Administration and General Government, speakers weighed in on whether the BOE — which was stripped of all but its constitutional duties by 2017 budget legislation — should continue to be run by the elected members, if at all.

Marty Dakessian of the California Alliance of Taxpayer Advocates argued during public comment that oversight of 58 county assessors’ offices is best performed by officials who are accountable to voters.
